POVERTY AND A DREAM

“POVERTY AND A DREAM”
BY MUBEEN AKBAR

Poverty is one of the greatest social issues all over the world. Aleena was a little girl and the only daughter of her parents. Everyone has their dreams to be well educated and live a prosperous life. Similarly, she had also an aim to get an education and became a teacher but there was a problem that they were very poor. They lived in a village within a small hut where they could only sit but not sleep comfortably. Whenever Aleena saw her age fellows playing with toys and going to school, she became sad and created hope because she was very poor and was unable to enjoy her childhood life like them.

Now, when she became ten years old, her parents left her at Mrs. Ahmad's house where she would do her household chores. Mrs. Ahmad once came into their hut and asked her parents to send their daughter to her house and she further promised that she will let her be educated as well. Aleena’s parents were living a life of poverty for many years and when they met with Mrs. Ahmad, they became very happy that their daughter now will be educated and their lives will be changed too. Finally, they decided to send Aleena and she also became happy that she will be able to get the education and her dreams will also be fulfilled.

Mrs. Ahmad was not so generous and not a kind-hearted lady. She had two sons and one of them was just followed in his mother’s footsteps. Now, Aleena came to them and she was very happy to live a prosperous life like them. She started to do their household chores daily by preparing herself that one day she will be educated and fulfill her dream to be a teacher. Mrs. Ahmad at first showed herself as a good and well-mannered lady so that Aleena may not have a feeling that she has done a mistake by coming there.

She used to be very good in front of Aleena but she asked her sons to do bad behavior with her. Mrs. Ahmad was a rich lady but she was always wanted to be richer as she was a greedy woman. Moreover, she was involved in a conspiracy with a crew where all people used to rape and sell girls. Her first son was involved in that crew and he was twenty-two years old and similarly, he wanted the same thing with Aleena. But the second child of Mrs. Ahmad was a little bit kind and he used to be attracted towards Aleena.

She was an innocent girl and did the same things which she was advised to do. Her parents used to meet her after months because Mrs. Ahmad did not want them to meet. She just gave them hope that their daughter is very happy and she is getting her education. Furthermore, she asked them not to visit her because she became sad when her parents left her. On the other hand, Aleena was not getting an education but she just did their common chores and console herself by saying that one day her dreams will be fulfilled.

A company indeed affects a lot like the second child of Mrs. Ahmad was kind to Aleena but over time he became involved in the crew of her mother. Whenever Aleena asked Mrs. Ahmad about her education, she used to beat her and asked her to just focus on her duty. She committed a deal with the members of her crew that when Aleena will be fifteen years, she will sell her to them in a big amount. Aleena had no idea that her life was going to be more miserable than her present one and she used to miss her parents because, for many years, they did not come to visit her.

Eventually, the day came when she became fifteen years old, Mrs. Ahmad gave her a beautiful birthday surprise and she became also happy and surprised as well that why she had arranged such a huge party for her. She also invited her crew to that party and that day was so mysterious for Aleena.

After the birthday party had finished, that crew abducted Aleena with the help of Mrs. Ahmad and her sons. She was in a miserable situation but no one helped her and they took her to an old place where they had a business of raping girls. They tied her tightly with a rope and she became shocked after watching Mrs. Ahmad and her sons with that crew as well. And she knew that her dream of getting an education and becoming a teacher was going to end there because it was all a trap for her. Unfortunately, that crew including Mrs. Ahmad’s sons attempted rape on her and killed her.

Hence, there is no life for the poor in our stereotypical society. There is no value in their ambition and their dreams are disrespected by the rich class of society. It is the social taboo of our society that it gives more preference to the rich one rather than the poor one. Moreover, rape is becoming very common day by day which kills every being’s dream.
